Lesson learned-stupid

Following the ethos of Marathon Talk (they are in favour of not being a slave to a plan and adjusting it where needed) I had a choice to make about which training run to do today, either 1m jog 1 m brisk 1 m jog or 1m jog 3 mile steady 1m jog. Being on the lazy side when it comes to this running lark I chose the first option.

As usual I laid my kit out last night ready for an early morning rise, thus avoiding disturbing the family. I was wearing my sports socks when I did this so decided it was not necessary to include these, as reasoned could sleep with them on ready for the run, saving precious time in the morning. However half an hour later when I retired to bed I completely forgot this train of thought. Now before you tell me this is due to my advancing age, let me tell you there was another contributing factor to this.

When I went to call the cat in last night, I noticed he had a friend out playing with him, it was Angel the rabbit (such an inappropriate title for the little ****)! Oscar the docile cat who should be trying to eat the escaped animal was instead having a great time playing with him! First we had to catch the feline and shut him in the house, then we had to notify the neighbour that we needed access to their garden, then hubby who is a genius (unfit but a genius) set up a one way track with various accessories to encourage him back in the hutch. This adventure lasted 30 minutes! Too much more of this behaviour and I have told him this is in his future:-

Back to this morning. After struggling to get out of bed I crawled downstairs to remember ‘the wear the socks to bed plan’, not wanting to disturb the sleeping beauties I reasoned that as I was only doing 3 miles and I would be fine. Yes I know STUPID. Two blisters gained by the end of the 3 miles. The good news is that even with a HUGE blister on my left foot I managed a ‘brisk’ mile with a pace of 8.59, oh to run 6 miles at that pace!

Off to purchase a T-shirt with this printed on the front

About shazruns

I have been running since 2004 when I decided to do the Race for Life, as a close friend was terminally ill with cancer. Following that I did a couple of 10km at Leeds castle and Sandringham. Then in 2005 ran my first London marathon, then another in 2007 in blistering temperatures. I have entered the London marathon every year since but have been rejected, am now find maintaining my fitness & motivation hard, so when the email came through about Janathon I thought why not! Am hoping this helps with fitness, motivation and weight loss!! Wish me luck!
