Where is the REST

With two weeks to go till the Cardiff half marathon the panic is starting to set in, not helped by my training plan reading like this, this past week…..

  • Monday- 5m off road easy
  • Tuesday-6m steady including bursts up hill
  • Wednesday-3×1 m fast with 5 min recoveries
  • Thursday-5m easy
  • Friday-5m easy
  • Saturday-6-7m including 10 x 30 secs fast/30 secs slow
  • Sunday-10-12m steady

Those eagle eyed amongst you will spot the lack of the words ‘rest day’, yep I couldn’t find them either no matter how hard I read and re read it. Never been a great one for following the plan to a tea, I quickly wrote ‘rest’  in to Tuesday, mostly because after my Sunday long run of 12 miles, followed by the 5m on Monday meant the legs were on strike on Tuesday and who can blame them?

Wednesday was the club 5k handicap so my legs needed to prepare. Friday I wanted to rest also ahead of the long run that needed to take place on Saturday, so with some juggling I opted to run Tuesday’s run on Thursday lunch time, followed by Thursdays run in the evening, leaving Friday free and me only missing on training session. (Following?) Oddly the lunchtime session I did not enjoy at all but the evening one was a joy! Two runs in one day, go me. So much juggling.

To fit in the long run this weekend I ran 10 miles before parkrun on Saturday, it was a beautiful morning for a run, but those miles are still proving hard to clock up leading to the panic setting in.

Oh I know I will get to the finish line at Cardiff, but its the journey along the 13.1 miles that is causing me some concern!

Beautiful morning for a run, this why I get up at 5 am on a Saturday

About shazruns

I have been running since 2004 when I decided to do the Race for Life, as a close friend was terminally ill with cancer. Following that I did a couple of 10km at Leeds castle and Sandringham. Then in 2005 ran my first London marathon, then another in 2007 in blistering temperatures. I have entered the London marathon every year since but have been rejected, am now find maintaining my fitness & motivation hard, so when the email came through about Janathon I thought why not! Am hoping this helps with fitness, motivation and weight loss!! Wish me luck!

I have a half marathon in two weeks .. and no long runs.. or short runs really.. basically not much training. I have moved past panic to a zen like state of meh! You will be great in Cardiff just remember the whole “it’s fun” thing when you set out and enjoy the day.

i’m so impressed with your training plan, your juggling (and ability to explain it) and then actually following through! Good luck in Cardiff!
