We have been in Devon for four years now. When we lived in Essex our nearest parkrun was Cambridge (45 minutes drive) or Southend (35 minutes drive), I made it to Southend once, and never to Cambridge, just a bit too far for a 5k.
Fortunately once in Devon Killerton was a more doable 20 minutes away. Then Exeter Quay started one, again 20 minutes away, now a third has started in Seaton again 20 minutes away. It is safe to say I am in a parkrun triangle.
I heard rumours about one starting in Seaton a while ago and wondered/feared what the route would be like. Seaton is a seaside town and itself is flat, but I knew if we ventured too far from the centre there would be some horrible hills!
Last week was the first event, but I was unable to attend as marshaling at Killerton, so yesterday saw me pitch up at the seaside, minus bucket and spade but with bar code and a jumper. Three degrees, but fortunately no wind and the sun came out.
Think you will agree, you would be hard pressed to get a parkrun more beautiful location for a parkrun or one closer to the sea!
Spot the volunteer standing on the prom where we would run.
I’d need not have worried about hills though, this is the route
Up and down the sea front, two loops. But at the turning point you ran on the pebble beach, twice and then the finish was on the beach also! Ever run on a pebble beach? Its tough.
Try that with tired, cold legs, its a killer.
I think my biggest problem each will be, which parkrun to run, but safe to say it its, stormy, wet, windy Seaton is the one NOT to go to!
Oh wow! … putting on my ‘reasons to move South’ list!!!!! Number 5!!!
Do share 1 to 4!
1. A ‘certain’ friend tells me it’s the only place to live π and she would be nearby!
2. The beach is nearby or right there
3. More sun days per year
4. Little to NO snow
π
You definitely need to check out Lee on Solent’s parkrun! Beautiful views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight and right by the sea, and pancake flat to boot!
Woohooo! Sounds like ‘my’ perfect parkrun. Pebbles and beach π€
Really? That’s mad!
You know me! Pebbles are so cool. Hard yes, but hypnotic if you gotten used to it. I don’t really have much choice there … most of the times my beach is full of pebbles. Small ones are fun help me quicken my steps π€
I find it noisy, energy sapping and tough when back on the path!
The sound is like jazz, bonus if you hear waves. One has to get used to it though … in the beginning I couldn’t even walk there properly. I also wear minimal shoes.
ooooo… Beach parkrun! Nice.
Killer, as you say… But nice.
π
Exactly!
Lovely views, but I think I’d rather have the hills than the pebbles! I can hardly walk on a pebbly beach!
Me too!
Wowsers sand is hard enough but pebbbles? Gosh. Looks wonderful though. Have to love a new parkrun.
