My success with VLM this year (by success I mean I enjoyed the marathon, avoided the wall and got to the end without hating everystep!) came about largely to me controlling the pace. With the GWR (Great West Run) looming in two weeks I know I will need to do the same here.
I have struggled with working out what that pace might be
- There is the pie in the sky pace, with not a chance in hell finish time
- Then there is the half marathon PB pace
- Then there is a GWR PB pace, this will be my third time running it
- Then there is the possibility of just trotting round pace (nice but unlikely)
This week I have tried to work out what pace is best, this has been a struggle, with the energy levels AWOL. Ideally it needs to be a pace I have to reign myself back to run at. This has not been the case however. I have struggled maintaining the required pace no reigning in required and certainly not a chance of keeping it going for 13.1 miles.
This morning I pitched up in Exeter for parkrun and a beautiful morning it was too. Time to try that pace again. Pleased to report pace maintained, reigning in required, now all I need to do is continue that for another 10 miles, simples!
