Change of plan

Today was the day I was meant to be running 55 miles to Babbacombe.

Today was the day I was meant to be running a marathon to Babbacombe (having decided the former was not going to be possible)

Today was the day I was meant to be running Killerton parkrun, for the second week in a row.

Today was the day I did Exeter parkrun with Louise (superwoman ultra runner and parkrun tourist) followed by cake.

I think it was the best of all the options! Lovely trot round, chatting and catching up on the way. Oh and the cake was lovely, shame I had to share mine with a certain teenager or in her words “I will share my piece with you!’

Happy to report ankles are recovering nicely. I saw the physio on Tuesday and he thought it was better and will give me some calf strengthening exercises. I did some googling about Achilles injuries and read through the list of possible causes. I don’t think any of them were relevant to me. Next I googled the best trainers to wear for Achilles injuries and it brought up my current trainers. The penny then dropped. Maybe I needed new shoes. I quick tot of miles done in current Nikes and was stunned to find it came to approximately 900! Oops. It seems they like me are knackered!

Time for some on line shopping. Today I collected these……

Can’t wait for my long run tomorrow along the canal.

I have been running since 2004 when I decided to do the Race for Life, as a close friend was terminally ill with cancer. Following that I did a couple of 10km at Leeds castle and Sandringham. Then in 2005 ran my first London marathon, then another in 2007 in blistering temperatures. I have entered the London marathon every year since but have been rejected, am now find maintaining my fitness & motivation hard, so when the email came through about Janathon I thought why not! Am hoping this helps with fitness, motivation and weight loss!! Wish me luck!

    Joking apart, when you take up ultra running you must ramp up those miles pretty quickly! My (less than) 10 miles per week would mean a new pair once per year, 40 miles per week would mean a new pair every 3 months? It really puts things into perspective! I hope that they help with your ankles.

    Best if you can get two colours so you get an idea on mileage of each and can rotate or match outfits !

  5. Cake, new shoes and a catchup. Sounds lovely. That 55 miles will be there when you’re ready (88kms – far out Shaz! You’re crazier than I am xxx)
