My morning started with hill reps at 6 am, I really must remember I am supposed to be on holiday!
Up the hill then the steps, up more hill, two steps, back down and repeat! Hot and humid.
The bus collected us at 8 and first stop was to look out over the city.
and as there was a terrific storm last night the sky was clear and the view amazing.
On arrival in the city we met with our guide who proceeded to give us an interesting hour long talk on the history of Verona as we visited the various sites.
Firstly the Ampitheatre, more complete than the Rome Colloseum.
July and August the Opera Festival is held here. Every night they rotate the productions, the sets for each Opera kept around the outside of the arena. Once one is finished the stage and set are dismantled and craned out before the next one craned in. Aida was due last night, Sphinxs and Pharoehs being put in position. Great that something built 2000 years ago is still being used for entertainment.
Then it was on to The balcony
When in Verona, it’s just got to be done. The courtyard below was much smaller than I imagined.
One of those people is my Romeo!
Verona is a city steeped in history and worth a visit. I have no desire to return feeling that I have done the bits I wanted to, Madam however would like to return just for the spaghetti she had at lunch!
