A grand day out

This morning I snuck out of the apartment and ran 6 miles. Two miles to the Lake, two miles along the lake and two miles back up.

The temperature was perfect, 6 am is clearly the best time to run and beat the heat.

After a non cake eating breakfast we headed to Garda and jumped on a bus, there followed an hour journey through Italian countryside up to the mountains to Spiazzi. We were making the trip on the recommendation of the holiday rep. Something off the beaten track he said, something worth doing away from the main tourist activities. Boy was he right! After a short walk down the hill we tired a corner and there it was

Madonna Della Corona, a church built in to the mountain, not on the mountain. Now the three of us are not known for our  admiration of religious buildings, but we’re all in agreement that this was stunning. As were the views across the valley.

Inside the Church you could see the mountain face that it had been carved in to and I tried really hard not to think about  where I was situated whilst I was in there! Some stunning stain glass windows in there too.

After we climbed hundreds of steps we were back at the top, seeking a nice spot for lunch. We found a lovely place overlooking the view, with attentive Italian host and amazing Gorgonzola Gnocchi.

A lovely day.

Tomorrow we are off to Venice and I can’t wait!

About shazruns

I have been running since 2004 when I decided to do the Race for Life, as a close friend was terminally ill with cancer. Following that I did a couple of 10km at Leeds castle and Sandringham. Then in 2005 ran my first London marathon, then another in 2007 in blistering temperatures. I have entered the London marathon every year since but have been rejected, am now find maintaining my fitness & motivation hard, so when the email came through about Janathon I thought why not! Am hoping this helps with fitness, motivation and weight loss!! Wish me luck!
