Doubting Shaz

The Ultra is two weeks away!

How did that happen?

Saturday after parkrun I headed off to do my third Blackdown Beauty. For those of you who are new readers this is a social run, 18 miles (or 10) mostly off road, passing by 4 pubs with a cream tea stop en route. Only in Devon. It is self navigation also which adds to the fun. The terrain is varied and tough you go through it all. I had forgotten how tough it is. That scone and jam at mile 15 was most welcome I can tell you. Our 18 miles was almost 20 due to my lax instruction reading, its so tough reading, talking and tracking! My ankles hurt at the end, they were in serious need of WD40.

So the doubts creep in. Two weeks time I am meant to be covering 9 more miles than I did on Saturday , oh this is going to be tough.

We did not finish till 5 pm, I knew getting up early and running another 3 hours within 12 hours was just not going to happen, instead I stayed in bed till 9 am! Oh the luxury of it all.

The run was moved till the afternoon. I decided to run home from Exeter after a trip into town to pick up some much deflated Euro’s! When I announced this to hubby, he gave me that look that he quite frequently does now, the one that says ‘mad woman’ but that look cleared when I assured him I was not going to run back along the A30! I knew how to get over the M5 using a footbridge

and from there I would follow my nose and road signs. I was off on an adventure! The plan would have been a good one and worked if I had not got Aylesbeare and Rockbeare muddled up! Anyway it was a fairly pleasant run even if I did not end up where I thought I would. Another 17 miles done and no ‘come and rescue me’ phone call was made, so am taking that as a success and the ankles were not creaking so much.

I might just make it after all.

About shazruns

I have been running since 2004 when I decided to do the Race for Life, as a close friend was terminally ill with cancer. Following that I did a couple of 10km at Leeds castle and Sandringham. Then in 2005 ran my first London marathon, then another in 2007 in blistering temperatures. I have entered the London marathon every year since but have been rejected, am now find maintaining my fitness & motivation hard, so when the email came through about Janathon I thought why not! Am hoping this helps with fitness, motivation and weight loss!! Wish me luck!
