Portugal Day Seven (Thursday)

I have not run as much as I should, as much as I planned too or as much as I wanted to since being in Portugal. Several factors have played a part in this but mostly down to the Achilles bring very stiff and me not wanting to upset it too much! 

Yesterday however I crept out of the caravan for an early morning 6 miles. I ran along the boardwalk

  
Which was a great surface to run on and despite my fears I managed to stay upright. At times it got tricky as the wind had blown the sand over the pathway hiding it from view and adding extra difficulty to my run

  
It was a good run, the ankle behaved, the weather was perfect and the scenery great

  
The occasional flight of stairs just made it more interesting

  
I was very glad I made the effort to get out there whilst everyone else stayed in bed!

6 miles done on holiday, with sand, with stairs and the early morning rise obviously counts as 10 miles in my book, so that’s my long run done!

I have been running since 2004 when I decided to do the Race for Life, as a close friend was terminally ill with cancer. Following that I did a couple of 10km at Leeds castle and Sandringham. Then in 2005 ran my first London marathon, then another in 2007 in blistering temperatures. I have entered the London marathon every year since but have been rejected, am now find maintaining my fitness & motivation hard, so when the email came through about Janathon I thought why not! Am hoping this helps with fitness, motivation and weight loss!! Wish me luck!

  1. Board walks are so good to run on, not so sure about the soft sand and stairs though. Glad to hear that the Achilles held up.
