More South West Coastal Path Covered

Thursday Madam arranged to go to an outside swimming pool complete with slides with a couple of her running friends in South Devon. As designated driver I needed to find something to do in the area for the day whilst they slid. Fortunately the pool is located on the coast so the decision was not hard.

I love running on the coastal path, it’s scenic, varied, challenging and most importantly it’s hard, even for me, to get lost!

I started off at Goodrington sands

(I love the reflection in the puddle of the green beach hut!) ran along the promenade before going under the railway line hooking up with Coast path.  Then I came to stairs…down

Managed these fine, (gingerly) but then I came to the up ones……I am sure people in the outer Hebrides could hear my legs screaming as I climbed them…..slowly  Well what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger so they say!

Of course the run was scenic

On arrival at Blackpool Sands I was pleased  to see there was toilets and even more pleased there wasn’t a queue-I’ll say no more! Releaved in more way than one I plodded on but pretty soon the Garmin said I done 3 miles and I could head back.

The squiggly thing in the middle of the picture is where Madam spent her day.

On return to the car I grabbed my swim kit and headed to the “proper” swimming pool and did 16 lengths in a pool 33m in length, it took me a while to realise, that as I could touch the bottom at both ends, the pool”s deep end was in the middle!

Run done, swim done, shower done, drying done, I headed out in to the sun to catch some rays, eat some cake and read my Runners World Magazine!

Not a bad way to spend a day, oh and Madam had fun too!

About shazruns

I have been running since 2004 when I decided to do the Race for Life, as a close friend was terminally ill with cancer. Following that I did a couple of 10km at Leeds castle and Sandringham. Then in 2005 ran my first London marathon, then another in 2007 in blistering temperatures. I have entered the London marathon every year since but have been rejected, am now find maintaining my fitness & motivation hard, so when the email came through about Janathon I thought why not! Am hoping this helps with fitness, motivation and weight loss!! Wish me luck!

I love the green doored hut! Two weekends ago when I dropped Thing 3 off at camp, we met my brother and his three girls at a water park. It was 59F and all the guests were wearing down jackets (this is in Maine). But the kiddos were determined to slide down all the slides and spend time in the (unheated) pools. I wish there had been a running path near there so I could have escaped.

  2. Looks gorgeous!
    Sounds lovely!

I too got to do some exprunloring on our holiday in Yorkshire recently. Which was good for an of-late runner with depleted mojo stores.

  3. Lovely photo and it looks like a lovely day too. Really enjoyed your photos. I would’ve had to have a go on that slide though, that looks awesome.
