Don’t judge a book by its cover

Usually when I go away with work I stay in Travelodge, Premier Inn or Holiday Inn, nothing fancy, not luxurious or extravagant. I was very excited to see that this weeks stay was somewhere new and even more excited once I googled the venue and discovered it looked like this

oooohhhh going up in the world Shaz.

On arrival I was shown to my room which was in a complex outside the main building. I climbed some rather grubby carpeted stairs. In the corridor outside my room were four empty beer bottles, a pair of dirty socks and a dinner tray! Nice. The first thing that I noticed once I entered room 58 was the ticking clock, this was located in the bathroom! How odd. I have never been in any bathroom in a hotel or home that has a clock in it. I assumed once I walked down the room that it would open up in to a bigger space. But no. This was the smallest room I have stayed in ever. Also the coldest due to the window being open and even when closed there was a huge draught. I put the heating on and climbed in to bed fully clothed. The company had paid £98 for this luxury

I think the mould was a nice touch!

By far the worse ‘double’ room I have stayed in. A few communications the next day and the room fee was refunded! Fortunately the breakfast and lunch at the Hotel were very nice and even more importantly for the work aspect of the day the internet was good.

No doubt I will be back, but think I will book in for the night at the hotel down the road!

Tonight was a 1 mile run with hubby. Probably not best to talk about DIY plans whilst doing this. Running is meant to lower your blood pressure not raise it.

CaptureThanks goodness the month is ending on a Saturday, thank goodness I can make Killerton this week. Least tomorrows exercise and blog is sorted. Nearly there.

About shazruns

I have been running since 2004 when I decided to do the Race for Life, as a close friend was terminally ill with cancer. Following that I did a couple of 10km at Leeds castle and Sandringham. Then in 2005 ran my first London marathon, then another in 2007 in blistering temperatures. I have entered the London marathon every year since but have been rejected, am now find maintaining my fitness & motivation hard, so when the email came through about Janathon I thought why not! Am hoping this helps with fitness, motivation and weight loss!! Wish me luck!

oh my goodness! it looks like a student digs – can not believe they have the audacity to charge almost £100 for it!

It was outrageous if I had been paying I would have been fuming, the company has just entered in to a deal with this hotel where they will be getting a lot of business over the country. A faux pas on their part

  3. Oh my goodness! I can’t believe that room! And the price for it. ugh. Running and talking DIY? You are a brave woman Shaz.

Eeek – what a room! I wonder what the rooms in the main building were like! So nearly there, enjoy parkrun tomorrow.

ohhhh, the mold. Not sure if I would have been able to sleep knowing about the mold. Or the clock.

That is the DeVeres near Southampton! I have stayed in what looks like that very room!!! In summer it is unbearably hot!
We complained and insisted work paid for better rooms. The only good thing about it is the fit trail which you can run round!

    Oh no!!!! Just awful!

  8. Moritz says:

Crazy. That should be a double room? And then this price… Incredible. Glad to see that you “survived” it 🙂
