Half Ready?

Two days to go till Cardiff Half marathon and am I ready?

Well…………………….

  • Training-done
  • Physio- done, I thought it was tough last time, well this one went to a whole new level and I have been limping ever since, not sure this is meant to happen
  • Paracetamol, Ibuprofen Immodium all purchased, I wont hurt but I may well rattle
  • Non chaffing, very loose comfy knickers washed and ready to go
  • Handkerchief laundered (resisted the temptation to iron) and waiting with knickers
  • Go faster gel acquired
  • Date and time checked, checked and re checked
  • Cardiff weather studied on the ipad hourly
  • Bag out ready to pack

The brain that will need to come along on the day is proving harder to prepare, its protesting, sometime shutting down completely, that’s how come I went shopping yesterday for three items and came away without any of them. I am trying to convince it that this is a) a good idea b) it will be fun c) we can do it in the time desired if it works co operatively with the legs.

I have been running since 2004 when I decided to do the Race for Life, as a close friend was terminally ill with cancer. Following that I did a couple of 10km at Leeds castle and Sandringham. Then in 2005 ran my first London marathon, then another in 2007 in blistering temperatures. I have entered the London marathon every year since but have been rejected, am now find maintaining my fitness & motivation hard, so when the email came through about Janathon I thought why not! Am hoping this helps with fitness, motivation and weight loss!! Wish me luck!

    Interestingly (or perhaps not) I favour the not-so-loose, close-fitting undercrackers when I’m running as I find it minimises thigh chafage.

    What a wonderfully varied breed us runners are.

  2. Good luck!! You’ll be ace. By the way, I have read that it’s better not to take ibuprofen when running eg a half. Something about kidneys. Or maybe liver! Sorry about the half baked advice 😉 X

    Good luck. I note that your list includes a handkerchief and pair of knickers, but no other clothing. You might be a) a bit cold and b) arrested if that’s your entire packing list!
