Up North

Yesterday I drove nearly 300 miles from Devon to North Yorkshire, it was the most tedious 5 hour drive EVER. All motorways, so dull dull dull.

Of course I packed my running kit and within 10 minutes of arriving I was out seeking a running adventure. Oh I love to run somewhere new. I found a river/canal, I found a path can’t get better than that.

Managed three miles then it was back to the Hotel pool for half an hour swim. Now I am not a strong swimmer and only manage breast stroke, its not something I enjoy really, but having a small, warm pool to myself was fabulous, in fact if I could get this more often, then I would swim more often. However after a while I got bored, had neck ache, felt dizzy from the circular route I was taking and began to feel like a zoo polar bear with OCD, at this point I got out and went in the hot tub! Heaven. Afterwards, I stuck my nose in the steam room but boy its hot in there! Madam commented that it sounded like I was on holiday when I told her of my activities, but I am here working- honest, just staying in a real nice hotel for a change.

DSCN0371Being away from home is so tough!

Here are a few shots of Boroughbridge, a nice Yorkshire town, tomorrow I will bring you details of my run in Ripon!

About shazruns

I have been running since 2004 when I decided to do the Race for Life, as a close friend was terminally ill with cancer. Following that I did a couple of 10km at Leeds castle and Sandringham. Then in 2005 ran my first London marathon, then another in 2007 in blistering temperatures. I have entered the London marathon every year since but have been rejected, am now find maintaining my fitness & motivation hard, so when the email came through about Janathon I thought why not! Am hoping this helps with fitness, motivation and weight loss!! Wish me luck!

Make the most of it. Enjoy 🙂

  2. That’s a long time to sit in a car. The run photos look beautiful. 🙂

You’re very close to Fountains Abbey for some truly wonderful running. Either run from Ripon, or drive a few minutes to the tiny hamlet of Studley Roger, for easy access into the park. Absolutely beautiful trail runs around the grounds.

It’s really nice to start running after a long drive. Nice to see that you even enjoyed swimming this time 🙂

Great way to kill the time when away from home…. Running!

    Well done, Madam.

I agree with you re. the running tights. They just look wrong on men. If they’re going to wear them, they should wear shorts over the top and to hell with them overheating!
