Weekend recap.

Saturday, I did Killerton parkrun for the first time in three weeks. I DONT like the old course, I DONT like being passed by everyone, I DONT Like running in humidity, apart from that it was a great run!

Today was Mrs E’s Big Wheeze run, a local cross country multi terrain run, organised by a school as a fund raiser, (that’s the Mrs E part it’s then me of the school), the Wheeze, well I am sure you can work out where that comes from. There was a fun run, a 5k and a 10k. Madam did the fun run coming in second girl and 5th over all. I chose the 5k due to the heat and miles in legs this week, nothing I to with with being a slacker at all, I promise.

The first kilometre was up hill on a lumpy, bumpy field, not my favourite way to start a run, very disheartening stopping to walk, having just started, but at this point my legs and lungs were screaming at me and it was encouragement! At kilometre two we headed down, then up, then down, then up, then down until the up hill to the end.

When they posted the results they put my finishing time down as 22 minutes, which made me laugh (no way was this possible) and caused a member of my family to have palpitations! This was soon amended to a more realistic time. I came first in my age. (Only two of us) and 16 out of 23, baring in mind the majority were young ‘uns! Not great, but okay.

About shazruns

I have been running since 2004 when I decided to do the Race for Life, as a close friend was terminally ill with cancer. Following that I did a couple of 10km at Leeds castle and Sandringham. Then in 2005 ran my first London marathon, then another in 2007 in blistering temperatures. I have entered the London marathon every year since but have been rejected, am now find maintaining my fitness & motivation hard, so when the email came through about Janathon I thought why not! Am hoping this helps with fitness, motivation and weight loss!! Wish me luck!

Well done to both of you. Running up a lumpy hill is not my idea of fun either!!

Is the new course better if it is super wet? Might it be back for the winter? I’m surprised they don’t alternate the routes to save churning up one route more or less constantly. I see the number of finishers these days is nudging 300 which is quite impressive!

Well done to you both on the Mrs E Wheeze!

Oh gosh. That stream of runners dashing past me throughout the first mile… yep, hate that! Scoring in one’s category when there’s only two running in it…yep, that more than compensates!

hey you got out there and did it, thats what counts… perhaps you can advise me? if you have time to read my blog post today xxx

  5. Well done on winning your age group!
