Greetings from Southampton

At 5 this morning I crawled out of bed, I tried hard to think  ‘at least its not 4 am’ as suggested by Jaxamaline, not sure it worked though.

On arrival in Southampton, I spent the  morning helping out on a course, but as luck would have it there was only 4 attendees on the afternoon session so I was surplus to requirement! Yay. Freedom.

Having studied the running routes on walkjogrun I found a nice run along the river taking in the Itchen Navigation path, which runs along the disused canal, perfect flat and even I can’t get lost!

Weather was hot, stomach not happy about the cheese and coleslaw sandwich that it had for lunch, so it was a slow. soaking up the sun, taking in the new scenery type run. The Itchen Navigation path was flat, overgrown, but noisy, running near the motorway and directly on the flight path for the airport, I swear I ducked a couple of times. gee they fly low.

I succumbed to the heat at 7.5 miles returned to the car for a hot bottle of water, before back tracking to the ice cream van where I purchased a cold drink and a lemonade lolly then I sat and enjoyed them both in the sunshine before the lolly fell off the stick. Why does that always happen?

Back at the hotel room, I struggled to turn the lights on, find the toilet (really why hide it behind the bathroom door?) get the shower working without drenching myself before I was undressed. Why is it all so complicated now? I long for the days gone by with the room key on a huge fob, least then I knew where the key was and would not have to spend all night looking for a credit card key.

Am very tired tonight,  might have to be inventive with the Juneathon activity tomorrow. maybe hotel stair running?

June 12 mileage – 8 mile run plus 1 mile walk.

About shazruns

I have been running since 2004 when I decided to do the Race for Life, as a close friend was terminally ill with cancer. Following that I did a couple of 10km at Leeds castle and Sandringham. Then in 2005 ran my first London marathon, then another in 2007 in blistering temperatures. I have entered the London marathon every year since but have been rejected, am now find maintaining my fitness & motivation hard, so when the email came through about Janathon I thought why not! Am hoping this helps with fitness, motivation and weight loss!! Wish me luck!

Awww, look at the black swan – makes me homesick!!
When I first moved to the UK, whenever I stayed in a new place (hotel/friend’s home) my first shower would ALWAYS be cold. I could not work out these power showers. What is wrong with taps people?

I’ve never seen a black swan before.Lovely pics. Don’t you just love how running tunes us in to all the stuff around us? Throw in a camera then, and we’re simply hooked.
    Nice running.

  5. I love running along the Itchen! One of my favourite routes 🙂
