PR PB thanks to RB

Yesterday was of course Parkrun day. I was disappointed not to be doing Killerton not just because it has been cancelled the past two weeks, but because I read this on their website on Friday night ‘kindly rerouted the first mile of the course to avoid the very muddy parkland at the beginning and the slippery downhill section through the woods. They believe the alterations mean our 5K course will now be a good few seconds quicker’ I briefly contemplated driving back for it but this would have meant a 4 am start and I had plans for a Chelmsford Parkrun PB.

As it was half term Madam and I had returned to Essex for a visit which now traditionally ends with a Chelmsford parkrun, before heading back to Devon. This enables us to catch up with school friends (her) and work and running buddies (me). As my lovely RB was planning on running 3 hours the day after she kindly volunteered to run with me, I gave her a time to aim for and she dragged me round. What a star she was encouraging, praising and cajoling me, all this and she managed to decipher my grunts! Well least I think she did. We crossed the finish line in under the required time, this meant a 2014 PB, a course PB (not sure this is strictly true as each time I have run Chelmsford it has been a different route!) and a PR PB. Yay.

Now all I have to do is get her to come and drag me round Killerton a minute faster!

I have been running since 2004 when I decided to do the Race for Life, as a close friend was terminally ill with cancer. Following that I did a couple of 10km at Leeds castle and Sandringham. Then in 2005 ran my first London marathon, then another in 2007 in blistering temperatures. I have entered the London marathon every year since but have been rejected, am now find maintaining my fitness & motivation hard, so when the email came through about Janathon I thought why not! Am hoping this helps with fitness, motivation and weight loss!! Wish me luck!

    Well done and congratulations on the PB! I’ve only ever run the same Parkrun course, although I do run different 5K routes with my training. Do you find your times vary by much between courses?

      Yes my times vary as usual Parkrun is hilly this one was flat though difficult to know if the downhills help more with speed than a flat course! It’s all so complicated isn’t it? Conditions underfoot make huge difference also

  3. Well done, a PB is a PB no matter what 🙂 What would we do without our awesome running buddies? Although mine always say I could do it on my own, I just need the moral support and that’s probably true for all of us 🙂

  5. Dear Mrs Long Distance Running Buddy, I agree with unsportywomencanrun, it’s the moral support, just someone to shout and prod a bit at the point when we’d normally give up! You can also forget about your garmin and pace and relax into the run (well in theory!) knowing that someone is watching the time for you …. the ability is already there 😉 As for Killerton, hmmm am thinking it will be role reversal with them there hills!!
