Janathon day One

If you had asked me yesterday how many miles was I planning on running on the first day of Janathon I would have said 13, however I woke this morning to the sound of torrential rain. I checked the BBC weather App and it said this

two drops of rain ALL day until 4 PM when it would brighten, just in time to get dark!

No I could not delay I had to get out there. Fortunately hubby had bought me a new warmer running jacket for Christmas, this was the perfect time to give it a test run. Heading out of the house the rain was driving horizontally in to my face, but I knew once I turned the corner I would be sheltered, but was surprised by the conditions on the lane that had turned in to two rivers

worse was yet to come, in many places the road was completely flooded by the water running off the fields, I ran through this water which was ankle-deep trying not to stop in the icy cold water.

when not running in freezing cold puddles it was actually a nice run, except for the driving rain, blustery wind, sleet and more flooding!

Tomorrow is meant to be drier but the village is practically afloat so still think I will be running through icy cold puddles, but know it cannot be worse than today! Can’t wait 1 down 30 to go and by the looks of the long term weather it will be more of the same. Hooray!

About shazruns

I have been running since 2004 when I decided to do the Race for Life, as a close friend was terminally ill with cancer. Following that I did a couple of 10km at Leeds castle and Sandringham. Then in 2005 ran my first London marathon, then another in 2007 in blistering temperatures. I have entered the London marathon every year since but have been rejected, am now find maintaining my fitness & motivation hard, so when the email came through about Janathon I thought why not! Am hoping this helps with fitness, motivation and weight loss!! Wish me luck!
