Time to Knuckle down

Yes its time to follow a training plan and chase that GFS (Good For Shaz) 5k time or in other words ‘Chase that Madam’.

Running Buffet put me on to a 5k training plan he got it from here and I have opted for this one, the dilemma was do I go for the intermediate one or the advanced? I opted for the advanced not that I think that I am ‘advanced’ (except in years) but because it looked harder and I need to not be lazy, I need to train harder.

This is the virgin copy of the plan

1This is what it looks like after I have fine tuned it!

You will note I have removed all the cross training, I don’t cross train (only when angry!) so will rest. Long runs have been moved to Sunday and Saturday is parkrun-ofcourse. The PB parkrun date is the 18th January!

This morning I did my 4×400 Interval workouts (IW-why are we obsessed with using acronyms?). I assume these are meant to be run on a track but as I have failed to get one of these put in the village yet I had to make do with the back lane. It was very cold, with thick frost but I did see another runner, so not the only mad person running in the dark and cold, so reassuring. The intervals were uninventful, I managed to measure out a route between twon speed limit signs. Why is it that 400metres seems longer when run in a straight line?

Lets hope this works and I get the GFS time!

About shazruns

I have been running since 2004 when I decided to do the Race for Life, as a close friend was terminally ill with cancer. Following that I did a couple of 10km at Leeds castle and Sandringham. Then in 2005 ran my first London marathon, then another in 2007 in blistering temperatures. I have entered the London marathon every year since but have been rejected, am now find maintaining my fitness & motivation hard, so when the email came through about Janathon I thought why not! Am hoping this helps with fitness, motivation and weight loss!! Wish me luck!

Well done! I like your plan. I’m finding mine so hard to stick to – not even running due to bad knees – just walking!
