Bristol 10K

This morning I headed to Bristol to take part in the Women’s Running 10K race, this was held at Blaise Castle although I only have their word for that as I never saw anything that looks like a Castle the whole time I was there.

On arrival, after visiting the toilet, I headed to the start, as I was wandering around I clearly must have been looking lost or bemused or both as someone asked me if I was ok and that someone was Nell McAndrew. It took me a while to realise who it was and then I quickly snapped this shot of her as she chatted to other runners. For someone who only had a baby 3 months ago she is looking very sickeningly svelte.

I thought she was running also, but no she set us off and was there at the half way mark cheering us on with the babe, she might have been there at the end but I didn’t see her, obviously because I was going too fast!

The 10k was made up of two 3k routes, not my favourite format, but least you know what is coming up after the first half. It was hillier than I thought it was going to be (aren’t they always), the grass in places was long and tufty which made it hard going but there wasn’t any stiles so that was good. It was well organised and water was plentiful which was good as it was warm this morning.

I finished 1 minute 9 seconds after the time I wanted to finish in, but was happy with that. Was it a PB? No idea really, it was a better time than the other two 10K’s I have done this year but this was a lot easier than they were, so can’t really compare.

The goody bag was nice, filled with goodies!

The T-shirt will be great for running (both dark purple not the blue they look in the pics) and you got to choose your size (please take note VLM rather than the ‘one size fits all’) so can actually wear this rather than sleep in it.

I like that the bling has the date on the ribbon, very good idea.

The Almond Rhubarb Muffin that I got at the finish was great too and would post a picture of it but it did not last long enough to have its photo taken.

About shazruns

I have been running since 2004 when I decided to do the Race for Life, as a close friend was terminally ill with cancer. Following that I did a couple of 10km at Leeds castle and Sandringham. Then in 2005 ran my first London marathon, then another in 2007 in blistering temperatures. I have entered the London marathon every year since but have been rejected, am now find maintaining my fitness & motivation hard, so when the email came through about Janathon I thought why not! Am hoping this helps with fitness, motivation and weight loss!! Wish me luck!

Funny, I just saw Nell this evening: on the cover of an old running magazine. Yeah, sickeningly svelte describes her! 😉

Would you do it again? I was thinking about entering it this year, but then I hurt my foot and the further I’d made it was 4 miles. Well done though – it was really quite warm yesterday in Bristol (we were there in the afternoon).
