Running with my buddy

After yesterday’s park run, madam and I hit the road and headed back to Essex for a few days. I started the journey singing along to “I’m leaving on a jet plane‘ which was playing on the radio (incidentally I have no idea why I know all the words to this as I was only 5 when it became number one, but know all the words I do) however Madam stopped me in my tracks by telling me my singing was like nails on a chalk board. I was devastated, its safe today I will not be entering X Factor any time soon so the rest of the journey was sing song free! Well almost!
I was very excited about today’s long run as being back in my old running area meant I could hook up with my running buddy. A long run with great company hooray! Now RB is also doing VLM and we are following the same plan BUT RB, since my departure, has become a speedy oldie! Yesterday she did the new Chelmsford parkrun in 25 minutes and is the current record holder in her advanced age running group (she’s waaaaaay older than me!) in fact her running is going from strength to strength so I was slightly worried about keeping up with her!
The weather was lovely, clear blue skies, sun out, chilly but nice. We did 14 miles with not a bad pace, I spent some time loitering outside the park public toilets in fact I spent so much time loitering outside the public loos that I am surprised I did not get arrested, but we have all had runs like this, literally. ( I was just so pleased my stomach behaved for a change!)
I can’t tell you how great it was to run with RB again and to catch up with the goings on in her life, it would be worth the four hour drive every weekend but I don’t suppose I will run with her again until VLM when I fully expect her to be waiting for me at the end with a mars bar and a diet coke.

About shazruns

I have been running since 2004 when I decided to do the Race for Life, as a close friend was terminally ill with cancer. Following that I did a couple of 10km at Leeds castle and Sandringham. Then in 2005 ran my first London marathon, then another in 2007 in blistering temperatures. I have entered the London marathon every year since but have been rejected, am now find maintaining my fitness & motivation hard, so when the email came through about Janathon I thought why not! Am hoping this helps with fitness, motivation and weight loss!! Wish me luck!

Doesn’t Madam realise that singing on a long car journey is what makes the miles whizz past!! šŸ˜‰
