As I live with someone whose mantra is ‘why do today what you can put off till tomorrow’ I tend not to delay doing things but this week my run got delayed twice and like all procrastinaters I have my excuses and very valid they are too. (more so than his ever are believe me)
I had planned on running 6 miles Friday morning, but Thursday night my knee was still sore and stiff and as I was seeing the physio Friday afternoon thought it was a good idea to rest it up in case she decided to slap me with another ‘no running’ ban, (excuse number 1). The run then moved to Saturday morning to do when madam would be at football training, but woke up with sore tummy (excuse number 2) so postponed to the afternoon. This did not materialise as hubby did not get home till late by which time I was safely ensconced on the couch watching England v Wales with peas on my knee and reading Runners World. Clearly moving from this position was just not possible (excuse number 3)
This morning however I got up early before I could think of any reasons not to and set out for an 8 mile run. I saw no-one. In fact the only wildlife I saw were 2 ducks and even they were sleeping with beak firmly tucked in their back wings-they must wake up with stiff necks I wonder if they havea duck chiropractor to help with this.
The run went quite well but at about the 5 mile mark the legs began to feel leaden and heavy and I spent sometime considering why this might be, one possible reason could have been lack of fuel as had not eaten since pasta dinner some 10 hours prior and the other hit me like a ton of bricks. (Like my running I am known to be slow) I was attempting to run 8 miles this was double my most recent longest run. I began to wonder if I had bitten off more than I could chew but by this time it was too late as was far from home, I had no choice but to keep going. Miles 7 and 8 got better and I made it home and the timing was not so bad so all in all am pleased.
I have just spent half an hour icing the knee, am off to Doctors tomorrow to see if he will prescribe me some anti-inflamatories to help reduce the swelling, this is on physio’s recommendation. She also recommended an ice bath but there is no chance of that happening!
Okay….your body it talking to you!!!! Sore knee MIGHT mean that this sport isn’t for you???
