Listening to the Doctor or not!

It amazes me that I can run a half marathon, be fine, drive two hours home, be fine, take my trainers off ……. and oh my goodness what is that? A blister like no other I have had before, a blister on top of a blister on top of a blister with the bottom one a red colour! Ouch.

No problem I thought. I operated on it, ewwww (will spare you the details) slapped on a compeed blister plaster and was done, or so I thought.

All was well till lunch time Monday then it started throbbing. I decided to investigate by very slowly removing the plaster. Honestly those things are like super glue, they are designed to full off when ready not be prised off early. Once off I noticed the blister was very red inflamed and hot. Oh dear, off to the Doctors then. She said many things

  1. That bunion could be removed (No it can’t)
  2. I would say its warm but not hot (you are kidding me you could heat a small house with the heat from that)
  3. I don’t think its infected yet but will give you a prescription, have it filled if it gets worse (first stop the chemists)
  4. No running till its healed (Only a 6 mile club run in half an hour)

Four days on and finally it does not hurt or stop me from sleeping. I have not run since Monday night but am due to run 10 miles tonight when I will strap it up to hopefully prevent it from getting worse. Slightly concerned with how it will be after the marathon in 9 days time!

About shazruns

I have been running since 2004 when I decided to do the Race for Life, as a close friend was terminally ill with cancer. Following that I did a couple of 10km at Leeds castle and Sandringham. Then in 2005 ran my first London marathon, then another in 2007 in blistering temperatures. I have entered the London marathon every year since but have been rejected, am now find maintaining my fitness & motivation hard, so when the email came through about Janathon I thought why not! Am hoping this helps with fitness, motivation and weight loss!! Wish me luck!

Oh Phil I did offer to FB a pic on Monday but people were worried about loosing their dinner! Promise to video the op next time. (Although bursting them does not seem to be the thing to do now!)

      • Yeah, yeah, I know…. Like you’re not supposed to pick spots…or dig your ear wax out with a cotton bud…or lay on your back and sniff up the blood to stop a nose bleed, etc, etc.
        😦

  2. Stop running!! Rest up, you do not want a sore foot for TheBigDay!! The training is done, enjoy the taper xxx

  3. It will be better for the marathon! All the best Shaz.
